On Hastings' southern border, there is a neglected strip of land that runs along Tompkins from Broadway to Nepperhan. A group of neighbors got together to begin removing invasive vines and weeds and replace them with a biodiverse array of native and pollinating plants. The epicenter for this effort is midway down the block, across from house #63. Plans include extending the work up and down the block, with each Tompkins homeowner adopting a section and with support from neighbors on other adjacent streets.
